The Afghan Girl

This beautiful portrait painted by our very own artist Michael Waweru, was inspired by the Afghan Girl which was a 1984 photographic portrait of Sharbat Gula. This is a photo that appeared on the cover of the National Geographic in the month of June 1985. The artist has been able to bring out magnificently the image of a girl with green eyes in a red scarf looking intensely at the camera. Michael has been able to bring out this through the professional application of pigment. The Afghan Girl has been likened to the Mona Lisa. A masterpiece for sure.
